Genotyping of 70,000 SNPs

Hohen Neuendorf, Institute for Bee Research. The aim of our project is the construction of a SNP-assay for the identification of genes controlling a defense behaviour of honeybees against varroa destructor. This ectoparasitic mite poses one of the biggest threats for the honeybee worlwide.
Around 70,000 SNPs were genotyped by next-generation sequencing (GAII) for DNA-pools of trait bearers and controls. Data resulting from these investigations will be used to construct a SNP-Assay.

Since we don’t have the necessary equipment, namely a Genome Analyzer II, in our lab, we were looking for an external service provider to carry out the work.
In response to my request directed at Findini, within one week, we received numerous offers from service providers all over Europe.

We decided to award the contract to imagenes GmbH, because in addition to the required expertise provided by this company, it is located close to our institute. This facilitated the coordination of the investigations. We were very happy with the cooperation since it yielded data of high quality.

It is somewhat laborious and tiresome to research the appropriate service providers. I recommend Findini because their service, which is free of charge, saved us time and effort, we were able to investigate at other places of our project.
